I know what the dads are thinking (and maybe even a few moms). “Why should I thank my kid for doing what they are supposed to be doing anyways?”

Well, the short answer, because it’s the kind thing to do. But, in the long run of parenting, because you want better behavior and a calmer home.

By saying “Thank you for hanging up your towel after your shower”, you will encourage your kids more towards better behavior in the future. It’s a knee-jerk reaction to say, “I better not see your towel on the floor again!” but it’s not the best option. Want to make your job as a parent easier? Then, manage them in a more positive manner by encouraging them towards good behavior. Kids will usually live up to the expectations we have for them, vocalized or not. Letting them know that you appreciate them for making the right choice and expecting it in the future will increase the likelihood of it happening more often. It opens up a positive line of communicate.
